My Events Through the Global Studies Program
Mass MOCA and Williams College Museum of Art
A Global Studies trip to the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art and to the William College Museum of Art
The art displayed in these museums was of assorting kinds, tackling a wide range of issues from poverty to racism to just art that went against no social issue. The contemporary art museum was located in a smaller town giving it the benefit of being cultured while still feeling simple. I enjoyed how it was not dedicated to any particular type of art or artist as this allowed for me to view a larger variety of art as well as the messages they conveyed.
As Ukraine Goes, So Goes The World, Wednesday, October 12th, 2022
A lecture by Timothy Snyder at UCONN college
I was fascinated by this event as it discussed how the Ukrainian-Russian conflict had played out and the significance of it to the rest of the world and the future. I was further intrigued by the speaker's discussion of how genocide has almost become treated as normal in the modern day and age, a harsh reality that I agree needs to be confronted.
30 Americans, September 29th, 2022
A school field trip to the art exhibit 30 Americans at the New Britain Museum of American Art
This was a field trip taken by the entire Global Studies program to exhibit featuring art only by African American artists from the 1970s to the 2000s. I enjoyed this trip as I believe that it helped me learn to look at art in a different way than I have before; by considering the race of the artist and how that connects to and affects the art they have created.
This event was beneficial to me because of the exposure to the religion of Judaism I experienced there. I am a hardcore Atheist who was raised to be Catholic, so I believe that it was very good for me to expose myself to the religion of Judaism, especially on a Jewish holiday as that allowed me a better sight into the religion's traditions.
